Paco
Paco Gomes, a recognized dancer, choreographer, musician and
teacher from Bahia, Brazil, has studied folkloric and religious
dances since his childhood. He graduated with a Degree in Dance
from the Federal University of Bahia and went on to receive a
specialization in Education.
His modern dance influences include:
Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Kurt Jooss and Maria Fux. He
performed in and created various folkloric and modern dance groups,
which have performed locally and worldwide.
He was a Professor
and choreographer at the Cultural Foundation of Dance in Bahia
teaching Modern Dance, Composition and Theory of Dance until
he moved to San Francisco in December of 2004. Since relocating
to the Bay Area, he has been an artist in residence at both San
Francisco State University and Stanford University. He has choreographed
for the Nego Gato Foundation in Philadelphia, The Rocky Mountain
Youth Foundation in Colorado and San Francisco State University’s
University Dance Theater (2004, 2005), Theater Works in Palo
Alto, 2005, US Performing Arts Dance Camp (2005-present) and
the ODC Youth Program (2006 to present).
He is currently a Lecturer at San Francisco State University
School of Music and Dance and is also teaching weekly at ODC
Dance Commons, City Ballet and Dance Mission Theater. His Dance
Company, Paco Gomes and Dancers founded in 2004, has performed
in various venues throughout the Bay Area and Bahia, Brazil. |
